A prompt template is a reusable prompt with placeholder slots for the parts that change between requests — like the audience, tone, topic, or target language. Instead of rewriting similar prompts from scratch each time, you write it once, save it, and fill in the variables. This saves time, ensures consistency, and makes it easy to A/B test different phrasings.
Yes. Templates are saved entirely in your browser's localStorage — they never leave your device. No data is sent to any server. The tradeoff is that templates are per-browser: if you use a different browser or clear your storage, they won't be there. For team-shared templates, copy the template text and store it in a shared doc or your own database.
No — use underscores instead (e.g., {{first_name}} not {{first name}}). The parser looks for text between {{ and }} and splits on whitespace, so spaces break the detection. Underscores, hyphens, and dots all work fine.
Absolutely. System prompts are often the best place to use templates — you might have one for a "customer support agent" persona that slots in the company name, product name, and support policies. Paste the full system prompt including all the boilerplate into the template editor, mark the swappable parts with placeholders, and you're done.
