Frequently asked questions

What overhead percentage should I use?

Most Scrum teams spend 15–20% of sprint time in ceremonies (daily standup, planning, review, retro). If you run many ad-hoc meetings, raise it to 25–30%.

How do I know my team's velocity in hours per story point?

Look at your last 3–5 sprints. Divide total hours worked by total story points completed. The average is your baseline. 8 hours/SP is a common starting estimate for inexperienced teams.

Should I include part-time contractors?

Yes. Set their hours/day to reflect their actual daily commitment (e.g. 4h/day for a half-time contractor).

What counts as an "absent day"?

Public holidays, planned leave, and any full days the person will not be working during the sprint. Part-day meetings go into the overhead percentage instead.
