Your image is drawn onto an HTML5 Canvas element inside your browser. The canvas only copies the visual pixel data — it discards all metadata segments (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) that the original JPEG or PNG file contained. The canvas is then exported as a fresh image file with no metadata. This technique is well established and works in all modern browsers with no plugins required.
No. Everything happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device and are never sent to any server.
Photos taken with modern smartphones embed precise GPS coordinates (often accurate to within a few metres), the exact date and time, your device model, and sometimes your name. This data is invisible in the photo itself but readable by anyone who downloads the file.
JPEG files are re-encoded at 95% quality, which is visually lossless. PNG files are re-encoded without loss. The file size may change slightly because the metadata overhead is removed and the compression dictionary is rebuilt.
JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) and PNG (.png). HEIC/HEIF files from recent iPhones require conversion to JPEG first (your OS can do this automatically when sharing).
